Merlin Rally 2009

 
The 2009 Merlin Rally was the 10th running of the event, and plenty of rallyists arrived early to enjoy the event, which may (?) be the final one, unless Tony and Paul change their minds about organising another.
 
The sight of a scouser on a 999 was enough to raise the alarm..
   
Tony immediately orders Rally Security into action.
 
Paul (Rally Security) - "South Wales Old Bill? Yeah, we've got a scouser here on a 999. It's probably nicked, can you get here quick?"
 
"It's OK lads, they can get here a week next Wednesday. Keep him under control until then."
 
OK, we'll put Anne in charge, she'll keep him in check. "But I'm innocent!" pleads Steve. "And I promise not to leg it if you let me out for a couple of bevvies"
 
So now it's bevvy time and the jury consults.
 
Meanwhile, the rest of the rally-goers get down to some partying.
 
The bar was buzzing.
 

"'Ere Steve, did you hear they caught someone trying to nick a 999 earlier?"
"Yeah, he was a scouser, bang to rights, open and shut case, hang him - I say".

"Get me another beer" says Steve.

 
Yet more bevvies flowed down the neck....
 
  ...and awards were awarded...
 
...until some were overcome with the enjoyment of it all and had to be helped back to their tents.
 
Meanwhile, the hardened drinkers were adding to the bottle bank stock deep into the night.
 
Come the morning yellow bikes came out to bask in the sunshine...
 
...and there were some nice red ones too!
 
Time to relax for a bit in the unseasonally good weather.

Anne kept an eye on Steve to keep him away from 999s.
 
Meanwhile, back at the camp site, the foliage made an excellent backdrop for photos.
 
Elly's grin sums up a great weekend.
 
But one or two others had a slightly less happy ending to the rally. Throttle cables, eh!
 
 
 
Whether there is a 2010 Merlin Rally is debatable right now, so you'll have to keep an eye on the events page.
