1994 Ducati 916 Strada

31,380 KM @ 19,612 miles

£15,500

In 1994 Ducati only produced two core models for public sale the SP series bikes they needed for WSB homologation and the beautiful 916 Strada bikes. These iconic machines are unique in all having the single seat monoposto configuration, but the Strada bikes have a classic plain red finish. They proudly carried forward the ‘Strada’ naming inherited from the legendary 888 series. Note: there was also a small batch of 916 S bikes with SP parts like Ohlins shocks and Carbon front Mudguards.

1,451 916 Monoposto Europa 1994 were produced in total

All 916 bikes are legends in their own right, but some are just a little more special. These very first 916 models were built at the Cagiva Factory and are referred to as ‘Varese bikes’. They carry a mystique having slightly different components used in production. Demand is driven by collectors trying to find one of these rare bikes to add to their collection; the very first 916 bikes to be produced. These bikes are rare & especially collectible

There are several parts on this particular bike which would indicate it is indeed a Cagiva produced model

  • Non adjustable front brake and clutch levers
  • Bronze finish anodised with chromed piston rod steering damper
  • Larger more capable P8 ECU
  • Twin timing sensor pick-ups
  • Black front sprocket cover
  • Blue anodised oil cooler line fittings
  • A raised ‘Ducati Racing’ embossed on the right hand side face of the rear wheel
  • Dark Black ‘Far’ branded mirrors
  • Many parts embossed with the Cagiva Elephant logo / 94 date stamp (note that elephants alone are not indicative, many bikes carried Cagiva branded parts into the 2000’s) e.g. on screens

Most importantly this bike has a low production serial number of 1650 (models under 2600 were all produced at the Varese Factory). The engine is also a very early example with a serial of 904 (engines were all produced at the Bologna Factory).

In 1994 and 1995 916 were in high demand, many bikes were imported directly from Italy bypassing Moto Cinelli who were proscriptive as to who they offered bikes through. This is one of these bikes – first registered in the UK in August 1995.

There have been 5 previous owners the last keeping the bike in his house for the last 15 years, before his widow released the bike for sale. At this time the bike came into the possession of Geoff Baines of Baines Racing. Geoff had serviced the machine previously, and took the vehicle on as his own, registered in his name. He has worked over the last few years to completely recommission it. He’s been sympathetic with the bodywork, correcting minor cracks and blemishes due to brittle plastics, while retaining the overall look of the bike. We have subsequently corrected some paintwork on the tank that we felt needed to be perfect.

Presented in excellent running order the following work was completed and leaves this bike ready to ride and enjoy or present as an incredibly original example of these early 916 bikes.

  • New Air filter
  • New Belts
  • Valves & Shims checked (Desmo service)
  • New Tyres front and rear
  • New Fuel Hoses

  • Coolant changed
